I've Had Dreams
02:58
|
|||
I've had dreams where it seems
I leave you behind
In the morning when I wake
You're there in the light
And my window faces west
The cold and the heat
They're fighting to the death
And you're thinking of me
Time kills all that it makes
It heals all our mistakes
But our hearts are floating in space
How unlikely that you'd find me
In this place
You were crying in my car
On I-55
I felt it in your voice
The light in your eyes
You were longing for a place
That's just up the road
And the feeling that we're home
We're on our way home
The things we hid high on our shelves
We had no one to tell
And the treasures we buried in fields
And the kingdom and the power
And the seals he breaks
Around all the plans we make
The pictures and pains we take
He says come to me just as you are
And I'll die for you
There's nothing I need from you
If you let me I'll fight for you
But for now come rest in my arms

Black into the Green
02:55
|
|||
I don’t want to go out in the rain
I kinda wish it would thunder and pour
Rattle the windows and doors
And this home would be our port in the storm
We’d huddle together to keep each other warm
Somehow
This town seems to be tearing itself down
One brick at a time they fall
Crash on the pavement below
And the cracks are where the water will go
And everything changes and everything grows
Somehow
Why can’t I shake this disease
Why do I throw the black into the green
Streets bleed buildings are shaking like loose teeth
And the people are trapped inside
They’re starting to lose their minds
And they all think we’re running out of time
Yeah we’re buried alive and we want a second try
Somehow
Why can’t I shake this disease
Why do I throw the black into the green
A victory is won
Over every daughter and every son
A victory is won
Over every daughter and every son
Why can’t I shake this disease
Why do I throw the black into the green
But I catch you looking at me
With fire in your eyes and embers at your feet

It Causes Me to Tremble
03:14
|
|||
In time we’ll tell the secrets that we hid away
Underneath our skin and bones through telephones we’ll whisper them
And then they’ll fly by satellites in their circuitry
Until the atmosphere brings them near again
Oh God it causes me to tremble
Oh God it causes me to tremble
The plans we made the stones we laid our lives upon
Are covered up in moss and green and seraphim are calling us
And if you ride to paradise in their chariot
I’ll know it’s not because you didn’t love this place
Oh God it causes me to tremble
Oh God it causes me to tremble
At night in dreams I see the things you’re working on
The poltergeists that haunt these walls the ghosts they all feel bad for us
And if there’s a list of all I’ve missed or let go unloved
I hope they haven’t marked the times you watched me drive away
Oh God it causes me to tremble
Oh God it causes me to tremble
Oh God it causes me to tremble
Oh God it causes me to tremble

Blue and Gold Days
02:26
|
|||
I’ve been rolling a boulder up a hill all day long
But I see nothing but blue and gold days from now on
Since I was a kid I’ve been hearing how it’s getting worse
But there’s something coming over the horizon yeah I’m pretty sure
So let’s live like we’re wolves on the run
We’ll feed and we’ll care for our young
We’ll sleep and we’ll howl at the sun
I remember where I was the day I heard about your friends dad
I was leaning up against the wall and the pillows from my brother’s bed
He choked on the smoke behind the veil of the Temple Mount
And you spoke to us both in those places that they tore down
So let’s live like this ship’s going down
And we’re wide awake in the bow
And heading home safely somehow
If we have to say goodbye
To everyone we love
And these cameras all make things look small
Let’s just do our best to recall
I don’t think we’ll need them at all

Teenage City
02:37
|
|||
I’ll grow old in this teenage city
As long as I don’t move or die
And if all I do is plant a little garden
Then let it root and let it rise
It’s two thirty on a Sunday afternoon
And my watch is fast, but that’s alright
Maybe times just slow it’s hanging back a little
And watching us go rushing by
People are the same in every age
But especially these days
We’re all insane
It’s been a while since the city’s seen a winner
So let’s pretend we’ll go downtown
And we'll raise a trophy high above our heads
And we’ll wave at that adoring crowd
Things don’t stay the same
They always change
But especially these days
They’ll be okay
I can see the shore moving out once more
To make run at all these stores
And ruin their merchandise and their floors
I’ll grow old in this teenage city
As long as you tell me to stay
And if God forbid it all burns down
Then we’ll do our best to build it again

The hard stuff’s coming down for some time
The clouds and the ground
Have us surrounded on every side
There’s nowhere to hide out now
You’re stuck here with us
And suppose like birds we knew a way out
We knew to fly south somehow
I don’t think we would
All the things we learned from better men
All the words we wish we left unsaid
All the borrowed books we never read
We have to give them back
The tail lights up the road
The billboards that are guiding me home
And the dotted lines
While everyone’s dying a day at a time
But still it’s nice to be loved
And the lanes we choose get harder to change
It’s starting to feel like we’re close to the end
But maybe I won’t catch the lights
And with any luck you’ll miss your flight
Oh perfect love all seeing eye
Watch over us tonight
